Andrey Tabachnikov

Few names have risen as quickly and impressively as Andrey Tabachnikov from Westpac. In a year, he has gone from being part of the Top 5% BDMs in Australia to ranking 8th at the Brokerpedia National BDM Excellence Awards 2024! This rise to the top shows his perseverance, dedication, and power to build lasting relationships in the industry.
Born in the USSR to a prima ballerina and a threatre actor, Andrey’s path to success was anything but conventional. At the age of 14, he moved to Australia with his mother, unable to speak English and faced with the challenge of acclimating to a new culture.
"Moving to Australia with no understanding of the English language was a huge challenge," Andrey reflected. Holding on to his determination and the support of a strong network of friends, he overcame these hurdles, laying the foundation for his future.
After beginning his career at Westpac in 2016 as a Credit Officer, Andrey quickly found his in the mortgage operations world. His role allowed him to explore various areas within the company, including Quality Assurance and Team Leadership. It was here that Andrey began building relationships with brokers, eventually leading him to his current role as a BDM.
What sets Andrey apart is his deep commitment to building personal and professional relationships. As a BDM, Andrey’s focus has been on understanding the needs of his broker partners and their businesses. “A successful BDM is not someone who talks a lot but who listens," Andrey explained. This listening-first approach has enabled him to form trusting, long-term relationships.
Andrey also maintains a personal connection with his brokers, making it his business to know about their lives outside of work. Whether it’s remembering when a broker is going on holiday or congratulating them on life events like weddings and new babies, Andrey is a consistent person who supports his brokers through good times and tough times.
As Andrey does what he always does – being there for brokers – everyone recognizes his commitment and authenticity, and they give him the same support back, as demonstrated by his ranking this year. “I was actually hoping to make it to the Top 100 again,” Andrey said. To his surprise, he is in the Top 10!
